SMSTS is the CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme: a five-day course that gives construction site managers a thorough understanding of their health, safety, welfare and environmental responsibilities. It is part of the CITB Site Safety Plus scheme and the certificate is valid for five years.
SMSTS is the site safety course for the people who manage construction sites.
By the end of the course, every delegate will be able to do the following.
Outline the legal background to construction health and safety and the main duties it places on managers.
Explain the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the site manager's duties under them.
Describe the health, safety, welfare and environmental responsibilities of the site management role.
Outline current HSE guidance and recognised good practice for managing a construction site.
Carry out and review risk assessments and method statements for construction activities.
Plan and manage safe site set-up, traffic, access and the control of common hazards.
Recognise occupational health and environmental issues and the controls for them.
Monitor the site, lead by example and hold others to the standards expected.
Five days, taught through presentations, case studies, group exercises and an assessment.
A formal CITB assessment, with a certificate recognised across UK construction.
Delivered by KeyOstas in-company or as a scheduled course, in the classroom or live online.
Delegates complete core exercises and a case study, and sit an exam paper, with a CITB pass mark to meet.
Successful delegates receive a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, valid for five years.
