Quick answer

What is the SPA Core Day Passport?

The SPA Core Day is a one-day health, safety and environmental course from the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA). It gives every worker a common baseline of safety awareness and is the mandatory first step before any SPA sector passport — food & drink, petrol retail or mineral products. It only needs to be completed once.

Run by the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA)
A 1-day course — the foundation of every SPA passport
Completed once, then built on with a sector day
Passport valid for three years, then renewed

The Core Day covers the safety knowledge common to every industry — law, hazards, safe systems of work, health, procedures and the environment. Many sites and principal contractors ask for a valid SPA passport before granting access, and the Core Day is where that passport begins. KeyOstas delivers it as an SPA-approved training provider, in public classrooms and in-company at your premises.

Is it right for you

Is the SPA Core Day right for you?

The Core Day is the starting point of the SPA scheme. If you need a sector-specific passport, you will take the Core Day plus a sector day.

Right for you if…

Your site or principal contractor asks for an SPA passport for access
You need the first step before a food & drink, petrol or quarry sector passport
You want a recognised baseline of health, safety and environmental awareness
You are booking training for a team that works across SPA-regulated sites

A different course fits better if…

You need the CSCS construction route — take the SPA Core Construction Passport
You supervise a team and need supervisor-level training — see the SPA Supervisor Passport
You already hold a current SPA passport and only need to renew it — take the relevant sector renewal course
After the course

Assessment

How the SPA Core Day is assessed

Assessment is built into the day — there is nothing to revise in advance.

TEST

Module assessment papers

Each module is followed by a short assessment paper. The papers confirm understanding of the day’s content rather than testing recall under pressure.

LEARN

Tutor-led and discussion-based

The day is interactive — trainer-led sessions, group discussion and real workplace examples that make the learning concrete.

Pass the assessments and you are issued the SPA Core Day passport, valid for three years. The Core Day is the foundation — add a sector day to complete a food & drink, petrol or quarry passport.
