Five CMIOSH-grade consultants led by an OSHCR-registered lead, with decades of UK H&S experience between them. Audits, risk assessments, policy writing and competent-person support — delivered by the senior consultant who scopes your engagement. Since 1984.
Health and safety consultancy is the work of helping UK employers meet their duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. For businesses without a qualified H&S professional in-house, an external consultancy is the standard way to discharge those duties — including the legal requirement under Regulation 7 to appoint a competent person.
KeyOstas has delivered UK H&S consultancy since 1984. Our model is deliberately senior-led: a small team of five CMIOSH (Chartered Member of IOSH) consultants — including our OSHCR-registered lead — rather than a large bank of junior account managers fielding phone queries. The Chartered consultant who scopes your engagement on the free 20-minute call is the consultant who delivers it.
We work across audits, risk assessments, policy and manual writing, fire risk assessment, incident investigation, environmental compliance and ongoing competent-person retainers. Engagements run as retained advisory packages (monthly support, published tier pricing from £495 a year), project work (fixed scope, fixed fee, quote on application), or interim cover when your in-house H&S manager is on leave or the role is vacant.
Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires every UK employer to appoint at least one competent person to help meet their H&S duties. That person can be internal or external. Our Silver, Gold and Platinum advisory tiers include formal Competent Person nomination, with KeyOstas named as your appointed competent person.

Our team includes five CMIOSH-grade consultants — Chartered Members of IOSH, the highest grade IOSH awards. It demands a Diploma-level qualification, peer-reviewed experience and verified CPD. Most one-person UK consultancies hold no Chartered grade at all.
Our lead consultant is listed on the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register — the cross-body register endorsed by HSE, IOSH and IEMA. Buyers can verify our registration directly on the OSHCR website.
No junior account managers, no offshored advice lines. The Chartered consultant who scopes your engagement on the free 20-minute call is the same consultant who delivers it — from first audit to final report.
Audits that close findings, not just list them. Policies your team will actually read. Risk registers that drive decisions. The benchmark is whether this made your business safer — not whether we ticked a box.
From first call to delivery, the Chartered consultant you meet is the consultant who does the work — no handoffs, no junior advisors.
Talk to a Chartered consultant. We map your current state, your regulatory exposure and your priorities. No obligation, no pitch — if we are not a fit, we will tell you.

It is not a legal requirement to hire an external consultant, but it is a legal requirement under Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 to appoint one or more competent persons to help you meet your H&S duties. If you do not have someone in-house with the right qualifications and experience for the risks in your business, an external consultant or retained advisory service usually meets that duty.
A competent person is someone with sufficient training, experience and knowledge to help an employer comply with health and safety law. Under Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, every UK employer must appoint at least one. They can be internal or external. Our Silver, Gold and Platinum advisory tiers include formal Competent Person nomination, with KeyOstas named as your appointed competent person.
Pricing depends on scope and engagement type. Our KeyOstas Advisory Service has four published tiers: Bronze £495, Silver £970, Gold £1,600 and Platinum £2,995 per year. Project work (audits, policy rewrites, risk-assessment refreshes) is quoted on application based on scope. Interim cover is quoted by day or month. Across the UK consultancy market, day rates range from roughly £500 to £800.
OSHCR is the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register — the cross-body register jointly endorsed by HSE, IOSH, IIRSM, IEMA and the other H&S professional bodies. Buyers can use OSHCR to verify that a consultant holds the right qualifications and carries professional indemnity. Our lead consultant is OSHCR-registered — you can verify the listing directly on the OSHCR website.
CMIOSH stands for Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health — the top professional grade IOSH awards. It requires a Diploma-level qualification (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent), peer-reviewed practical experience, and ongoing Continuing Professional Development. The KeyOstas team includes five CMIOSH-grade consultants. Most one-person UK consultancies hold no Chartered grade at all, so the rarity is a meaningful trust signal.
A scoping call can usually be booked within one working week. After the scoping call we send a written proposal within 24 hours. Once you accept, retained advisory tiers go live in about a week (Competent Person paperwork plus the first compliance baseline review). Project work starts on the date set in the proposal — typically two to four weeks out.
Free 20-minute scoping call. Written proposal within 24 hours. No obligation and no pitch — if we are not a fit for you, we will say so on the call.
