Trains a workplace Mental Health First Aider, accredited by MHFA England
Two days, around 14 hours, delivered in two days or four sessions
Covers spotting the signs of mental ill health and giving first-line support
Teaches the MHFA action plan and non-judgemental listening
A Mental Health First Aider is the workplace equivalent of a physical first aider: a trained, confident first point of contact when a colleague is struggling. This is the two-day course, accredited by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England, that trains them. Over around 14 hours, delivered as two full days or four shorter sessions, it builds an in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that affect wellbeing, the practical skill to spot the triggers and signs of mental ill health, and the confidence to step in and support someone in distress using the MHFA action plan. It develops non-judgemental listening skills and the knowledge to guide a colleague towards professional help and other support for recovery. The course is delivered through interactive group activities, presentations and discussion, online or face-to-face, and delegates receive a certificate on completion. A Mental Health First Aider does not diagnose or provide therapy: the role is to recognise, support and signpost. KeyOstas delivers the course in-company or as a scheduled course.
