Quick answer

What is ladder inspection training?

Ladder inspection training prepares the people who inspect ladders and access equipment to do it properly: the legal background, the checks to make, the defects to look for, and how to record and report them. KeyOstas delivers it as a half-day in-company course, including inspecting your own equipment.

For the employees and supervisors who inspect ladders
Covers PUWER, the Work at Height Regulations and statutory checks
Includes hands-on inspection of your own on-site equipment
Certificate of attendance for every delegate
Ladders remain one of the most common pieces of access equipment, and a damaged or worn ladder is a real fall risk. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require work equipment to be inspected by a competent person. This course builds that competence: it covers the legal background, the pre-use and detailed inspections a ladder needs, the defects that mean a ladder should be withdrawn, and how to record findings using your own procedures and forms.

FAQ

Ladder inspection training: frequently asked questions

Who should attend ladder inspection training?
The employees and supervisors who are given the job of inspecting ladders and access equipment in your organisation.
How long is the course?
Half a day, delivered in-company at your premises.
Is ladder inspection a legal requirement?
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require work equipment to be inspected by a competent person. This course builds that competence.
How often should ladders be inspected?
Ladders need a pre-use check every time, plus more detailed inspections at intervals set by your risk assessment. The course covers both, and how to record them.
Does the course use our own equipment?
Yes. Delivered in-company, the practical inspections use your own ladders and access equipment, and your own inspection forms.
Does it cover LOLER?
The course covers PUWER and the Work at Height Regulations as the core law for ladders, and explains where LOLER applies to lifting equipment specifically.
What happens if a ladder fails inspection?
The course covers defect reporting and how to take a ladder out of use so it cannot be used until it is repaired or replaced.
Is this an accredited qualification?
It is a KeyOstas course with a certificate of attendance: practical training rather than a regulated qualification.
