Quick answer

What is the CCNSG Safety Passport Renewal course?

The CCNSG Renewal course is a one-day refresher for workers who already hold a CCNSG Safety Passport and whose card is due to expire. Run under the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), it updates your health, safety and environmental knowledge and, on successful completion, extends your CCNSG card for a further three years. You must renew before your card expires — there is no grace period.

For current cardholders whose passport is nearing expiry
Renew any time up to 6 months before the expiry date
Successful renewal extends your card for another 3 years

Renewing keeps you current with the latest safety legislation and best practice, and keeps your engineering construction site access live — a valid CCNSG card is often a pre-requisite to get on site. KeyOstas delivers the CCNSG Renewal course as an ECITB Approved Training Provider, in classrooms across the UK and in-company at your premises, and can remind you when your card is approaching its three-year expiry.

Renew before your card expires. There is no grace period — if your CCNSG Safety Passport lapses, you must re-sit the full 2-day CCNSG National Safety Passport course rather than the 1-day renewal. You can renew up to six months before the expiry date, so the safest approach is to book your renewal early. KeyOstas can track your expiry date and remind you in good time.
Is it right for you

Is the CCNSG Renewal course right for you?

The renewal course is specifically for current cardholders. If you have never held a CCNSG card, or yours has already lapsed, a different course applies.

Right for you if…

You hold a CCNSG Safety Passport that expires within the next six months
You need to keep your engineering construction site access live without a gap
You want to refresh your health and safety knowledge without re-sitting the full 2-day course
Your employer wants the whole crew’s cards kept in date and compliant
You prefer tutor-led, classroom learning over sitting a test cold

A different course fits better if…

You have never held a CCNSG card — take the CCNSG National Safety Passport (2 days) first
Your CCNSG card has already expired — you must re-sit the full 2-day course, not the renewal
You hold a current card and now lead a team — consider CCNSG Leading a Team Safely (LATS)

Course content

What does the CCNSG Renewal course cover?

The renewal course condenses the four core areas of the CCNSG syllabus into a single refresher day, set by the ECITB.

1

Health & safety legislation and safe working practices

  • Updates to health and safety law and regulations
  • Safe working practices and procedures
  • Where responsibility sits — and the impact of getting it wrong
2

Safe use of tools and equipment

  • Working safely with tools and equipment in different environments
  • Refresher on key site hazards and their controls
  • Risk assessments and permit-to-work systems
3

Safe working practices and emergencies

  • Safe solutions to problems and emergencies
  • Confined spaces, hazardous substances, noise and vibration
  • Incident reporting and emergency response
4

Personal site safety responsibilities

  • Your personal responsibilities on site
  • How individual behaviour affects the whole team
  • Maintaining a safety-first attitude
When to renew

Your CCNSG renewal timeline

A CCNSG Safety Passport runs on a three-year cycle. Renewing at the right time keeps your site access live with no gap — here is how the timing works.

1

Up to 6 months before expiry

Book your one-day renewal as soon as your card enters its final six months. Booking early gives you the pick of course dates.

2

Before the expiry date

Complete the one-day CCNSG Renewal course while your card is still valid — there is no grace period once it has expired.

3

After you renew

Your CCNSG Safety Passport is reissued and valid for a further three years — and KeyOstas will remind you when the next renewal is due.

Left it too late? If your card has already expired, the one-day renewal is no longer an option — you will need to re-sit the full 2-day CCNSG National Safety Passport course. Talk to our team and we will help you get booked in quickly.
Assessment

How is the renewal course assessed?

The CCNSG Renewal Course is a tutor-led refresher with the knowledge check built into the day — nothing to revise in advance.

LEARN

Tutor-led refresher day

The day is delivered through trainer-led sessions, group discussion and shared site experience — revisiting the CCNSG syllabus and updating you on what has changed since you last sat the course.

CHECK

Knowledge check built in

The renewal includes a knowledge assessment as part of the course. Pass it and your CCNSG Safety Passport is renewed and reissued, valid for a further three years from the date of completion.

Pass the knowledge check and your CCNSG Safety Passport is renewed and reissued, valid for a further three years. Remember there is no grace period — your renewal must be completed before your current card expires, so book in good time.

What is the CCNSG Renewal course?
The CCNSG Renewal course is a one-day refresher for workers who already hold a CCNSG Safety Passport. Run under the ECITB, it updates your health, safety and environmental knowledge and extends your CCNSG card for a further three years.
How long is the CCNSG Renewal course?
The CCNSG Renewal course is one day — a tutor-led refresher of the two-day national course, with the knowledge check delivered as part of the day.
When should I renew my CCNSG card?
Renew before your card expires. You can renew any time in the six months before the expiry date, so it is best to book early rather than leave it to the last minute.
What happens if my CCNSG card has already expired?
There is no grace period. If your CCNSG Safety Passport has expired, you cannot use the one-day Renewal course — you must re-sit the full two-day CCNSG National Safety Passport course instead.
Why renew rather than let my CCNSG card lapse?
If your card lapses you lose your engineering construction site access and must re-sit the full two-day course to get a new one. Renewing on the one-day course is quicker and lower cost, keeps your site access uninterrupted, and refreshes your knowledge of current legislation and best practice.
How is the renewal course assessed?
The one-day Renewal course includes a knowledge check as part of the day. Pass it and your CCNSG Safety Passport is renewed and reissued, valid for a further three years.
How long is my CCNSG card valid after renewal?
A renewed CCNSG Safety Passport is valid for three years from the date you complete the renewal.
How much does CCNSG renewal cost?
KeyOstas public CCNSG Renewal courses are £161 +VAT per delegate, including lunch, refreshments, the assessment and card reissue. In-company renewal for teams is quoted on request.
Can the renewal course be delivered in-company?
Yes. KeyOstas can deliver the CCNSG Renewal course at your own premises anywhere in the UK, or as a live virtual classroom — a cost-effective way to renew a whole crew together.
Do I need to bring my old CCNSG card?
You will need to provide proof of your current CCNSG Safety Passport so the renewal can be processed — bring your card with you. If you cannot locate it, contact our team before the course and we will advise.
