Choosing a course

Choosing the right CCNSG course

The right CCNSG course depends on the site type, the delegate's role, and whether they already hold a current passport.

01

Which CCNSG course do I need?

New starters and anyone without a passport sit the 2-day National Safety Passport. Existing passport holders take the 1-day Renewal before their card expires. Supervisors and team leaders add the 1-day Leading a Team Safely (LATS).

02

When do I need to renew?

CCNSG passports last 3 years. You must sit the 1-day Renewal before the card expires — there is no grace period. Miss it and you sit the full 2-day passport again.

03

Is CCNSG required on every site?

Most major UK engineering construction sites — power, petrochem, infrastructure — require CCNSG before site access. Always check the client requirement before booking. If a client asks for SPA instead, we run those too.

Common questions

CCNSG courses: FAQs

What is the CCNSG passport?

The CCNSG (Client Contractor National Safety Group) National Safety Passport is the safety passport for UK engineering construction. It is owned by the ECITB and required by most power, petrochem and infrastructure clients before site access. KeyOstas is an ECITB-approved CCNSG training provider.

How long is a CCNSG passport valid?

CCNSG passports are valid for 3 years from the date of issue. Renewal must be done before the card expires — there is no grace period after the expiry date.

What is the difference between CCNSG and SPA?

CCNSG is the standard passport for UK engineering construction sites (power, petrochem, infrastructure). SPA is the family of passports for other industrial sectors (food & drink, petrol retail, quarry, construction CSCS, supervisor). If a client asks for a specific passport, book that one. If unsure, CCNSG is the most widely accepted across UK industry.

What is LATS (Leading a Team Safely)?

LATS is the 1-day ECITB course for supervisors and team leaders on engineering construction sites. It builds on the CCNSG passport with four leadership elements: the Team, the Plan, the Job, and a Good Job. Delegates must already hold a current CCNSG passport.

Where do you run CCNSG courses?

Public dates run from our Southam training centre in Warwickshire and partner centres UK-wide. In-company delivery is available across the UK and we can also run the renewal as a virtual classroom course.

Can KeyOstas deliver CCNSG training to a whole team?

Yes. We regularly put whole engineering construction teams through their CCNSG passport in a single in-company visit, with no travel time for your staff. Get in touch for an in-company quote.
