Quick answer

What is slinging and lifting operations training?

Slinging and lifting operations training gives staff the knowledge to plan and carry out lifting operations safely — selecting and inspecting lifting accessories, slinging loads correctly and working as part of a lifting team. It is delivered in-company under LOLER, with an ITSSAR-accredited or KeyOstas in-house certificate.

Novice, experienced and refresher levels

Lifting operations are high-risk: LOLER requires every lift to be properly planned, supervised and carried out by competent people. This course covers lifting accessories and their inspection, estimating load weight and centre of gravity, safe slinging technique, and the roles within a lifting team. KeyOstas delivers it in-company so the team trains together in their real environment.

FAQ

Slinging & Lifting Operations — frequently asked questions

What does slinging and lifting operations training cover?
It covers planning and carrying out lifting operations safely — selecting and inspecting lifting accessories, estimating loads, safe slinging technique, and the roles within a lifting team.
Is the training a legal requirement?
LOLER requires lifting operations to be properly planned by a competent person, appropriately supervised and carried out safely. This training is how employers ensure the team is competent.
How is this different from slinger signaller training?
Slinger signaller training focuses on attaching loads to a crane and directing the lift with signals. Slinging & lifting operations is broader — lifting accessories, technique and planning across lifting operations generally.
Do I need an ITSSAR-accredited certificate, or is in-house enough?
Both are valid. An ITSSAR-accredited certificate is independently verifiable and TOPS-registered; a KeyOstas in-house certificate is delivered to the same standard. Choose based on what your sites and clients ask for.
How long is the course?
Typically two days for a novice, and around one day for experienced delegates or a refresher. Duration flexes with the number of delegates.
How often is refresher training needed?
Refresher training is recommended every three to five years, and sooner after an incident or a change of duties.
Can you train our team on site?
Yes. All KeyOstas slinging and lifting training is delivered in-company, in your real working environment.
