What is First Aid at Work training?

First Aid at Work (FAW) is a three-day course that trains a full workplace first aider, with the knowledge and skills to manage an accident or illness in the workplace. Covers the complete first aid at work syllabus
Supports your duty under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations
Where a first-aid needs assessment shows a workplace needs more than emergency cover, First Aid at Work is the course. Over three days it builds a complete workplace first aider: managing the unconscious casualty and giving CPR, controlling bleeding and shock, and recognising and treating a wide range of injuries and medical conditions, from fractures and burns to heart conditions, stroke, diabetes and more. It is accredited by Cognet Occupational Safety and Health Ltd through the First Aid Industry Body, with a recognised three-year certificate.

FAQ

First Aid at Work training: frequently asked questions

Is First Aid at Work a legal requirement?

Three days, delivered in-company at your premises.
Is the course accredited?
Yes. It is accredited by Cognet Occupational Safety and Health Ltd through the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB), so delegates receive a recognised certificate.

Three years. Before it expires the first aider should attend the two-day Requalification course.
What is the difference between First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work?
Emergency First Aid at Work is one day and covers the emergency basics, for lower-risk workplaces. First Aid at Work is three days and covers a fuller syllabus, for higher-risk or larger workplaces. Your needs assessment decides which you need.

How is the course assessed?
By practical questioning and demonstration throughout, and a multiple-choice question paper.

Yes. The HSE recommends a short annual refresher so first aiders keep their skills and confidence current between three-yearly certificates.
