Quick answer

What is COSHH assessor training?

COSHH assessor training equips delegates to carry out workplace COSHH assessments: gathering hazard data, judging exposure against the limits, and choosing the controls that reduce the risk. KeyOstas delivers it as a one-day in-company course, assessed by a short multiple-choice test.

Trains delegates to carry out workplace COSHH assessments
Covers exposure limits, routes of entry and control strategies
Built around the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
Certificate of attendance, with a short multiple-choice end test
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002, known as COSHH, require employers to assess the risk from hazardous substances and to control exposure. To do that you need competent assessors. This course develops those assessors. It covers the law, the main occupational health risks, how substances attack the body and get into it, occupational exposure limits, and the control strategies from substitution and ventilation through to personal protective equipment. Delegates develop and use a practical assessment model and finish with a short multiple-choice test.

Is it right for you

Is this course right for your team?

It is for the people who will carry out COSHH assessments for the organisation.

Right for you if…

You need staff who can carry out workplace COSHH assessments
Your work involves hazardous substances, chemicals or biological agents
You want assessments done in-house rather than bought in
You are a manager, health & safety or technical team member taking on this role
You want assessors who understand exposure limits and control, not just a form

A different course fits better if…

Your staff just need awareness of hazardous substances: see COSHH Awareness
Your substance risk is asbestos, which is covered by separate asbestos training
You want a regulated, accredited qualification: this is a certificate of attendance

FAQ

COSHH assessor training: frequently asked questions

What is a COSHH assessor?
A COSHH assessor is someone trained to carry out workplace assessments of hazardous substances: gathering the hazard data, judging exposure against the limits, and deciding the controls needed under the COSHH Regulations 2002.
How long is the course?
One day, delivered in-company at your premises.
Who should attend?
