The one-day SPA Core Construction course — the recognised health and safety route for the construction industry, and an accepted basis for applying for a CSCS Labourer (Green) Card. Delivered in-company, classroom-based.
SPA Core Construction is delivered in-company, classroom-based — train a whole site team together at your premises.
The SPA Core Construction passport is a one-day health, safety and environmental course from the Safety Pass Alliance, written for the construction industry. It gives a recognised baseline of site-safety knowledge and is an accepted route for applying for a CSCS Labourer (Green) Card. The passport runs on a five-year cycle.
It covers the same six-module SPA core syllabus, framed for construction sites. To apply for a CSCS Labourer Card you also need to pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test — the course certificate is what lets you book that test. The course is classroom-based; under CSCS rules it is not delivered virtually. KeyOstas delivers it in-company as an SPA-approved training provider.
This is the construction-industry version of the SPA Core Day. If you work in food & drink, petrol or quarrying, a different SPA passport applies.
By the end of the day your crew will have the site-safety baseline construction sites expect.
Identify the common hazards on construction sites and how they are controlled.
Work to risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work systems.
Select and use PPE correctly and follow site rules and signage.
Understand health and safety law and where responsibility sits on site.
Know how to report accidents and near-misses, including under RIDDOR.
Understand environmental responsibilities and pollution control on site.
The course follows the six-module SPA core syllabus, framed for construction, delivered through tutor-led sessions and module assessments.
Assessment is built into the day, and the certificate has a specific role in the CSCS route.
Each module is followed by a short assessment paper covering the construction-framed core syllabus.
The course certificate is what lets you book the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test — the test you must pass to apply for a CSCS Labourer Card.
Both are one-day SPA core courses — the difference is the industry and the card cycle.
