Quick answer

What is the SPA Core Construction Passport?

The SPA Core Construction passport is a one-day health, safety and environmental course from the Safety Pass Alliance, written for the construction industry. It gives a recognised baseline of site-safety knowledge and is an accepted route for applying for a CSCS Labourer (Green) Card. The passport runs on a five-year cycle.

Run by the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA)
A 1-day construction-focused health and safety course
An accepted route toward a CSCS Labourer Green Card
Valid five years — the CSCS cycle, not the usual SPA three

It covers the same six-module SPA core syllabus, framed for construction sites. To apply for a CSCS Labourer Card you also need to pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test — the course certificate is what lets you book that test. The course is classroom-based; under CSCS rules it is not delivered virtually. KeyOstas delivers it in-company as an SPA-approved training provider.

Is it right for you

Is SPA Core Construction right for you?

This is the construction-industry version of the SPA Core Day. If you work in food & drink, petrol or quarrying, a different SPA passport applies.

Right for you if…

You work in, or are entering, the construction industry and need site-safety training
You are applying for a CSCS Labourer (Green) Card and need an accepted course
Your principal contractor asks for SPA Core Construction for site access
You are an employer inducting a construction crew onto a recognised safety baseline
You want a five-year passport rather than the standard three-year SPA cycle

A different course fits better if…

You work on food & drink, petrol or quarry sites — take the SPA Core Day plus the relevant sector passport
You supervise a construction team — consider the SPA Supervisor Passport
You need engineering construction site access — the CCNSG Safety Passport may be what your site requires
