What it is

The ECA Health & Safety Competent Advisor Service

Every ECA Member can already access free competent health and safety advice from the ECA by phone or email — a great way for an electrical contractor to show H&S competence. But many Members tell the ECA they also want ongoing, on-site support from a competent external advisor who knows their business.

For exactly that, the ECA arranged an exclusive Health & Safety Competent Advisor Service — and appointed KeyOstas as its health and safety partner to run it. It is a retained competent-advisor service built around how electrical and electrotechnical contractors actually work: project RAMS, CDM 2015 alignment, the paperwork principal contractors demand, and a named CMIOSH advisor as your Regulation 7 competent person.

KeyOstas has delivered UK H&S consultancy since 1984. The same five CMIOSH consultants and OSHCR-registered lead who serve our wider client base deliver the ECA Member service — at exclusive, highly competitive ECA Member rates.

Why KeyOstas

Why the ECA partners with KeyOstas

Four reasons the Electrical Contractors’ Association chose KeyOstas as its health and safety partner.

01

Chartered consultants

Five CMIOSH-grade consultants — Chartered Members of IOSH, the highest grade IOSH awards. Most one-person UK consultancies hold no Chartered grade at all.

02

OSHCR registered

Our lead consultant is listed on the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register — the cross-body register endorsed by HSE, IOSH and IEMA. Verify us directly on OSHCR.

03

Senior-led, always

No junior account managers, no offshored advice lines. The Chartered consultant who scopes your engagement on the free call is the consultant who delivers it.

04

Practical, not bureaucratic

Findings closed, not just listed. Documents your team will actually use. The benchmark is whether this made your business safer.

How we work

Three steps to start an engagement

From first call to delivery, the Chartered consultant you meet is the consultant who does the work — no handoffs, no junior advisors.

Frequently asked

ECA Competent Advisor Service questions

The questions UK buyers ask us most about this service. Tap any to expand.

What is the ECA Health & Safety Competent Advisor Service?

It is an exclusive service the Electrical Contractors’ Association arranged for its Members who want ongoing, on-site health and safety support from a competent external advisor. The ECA appointed KeyOstas as its health and safety partner to deliver it — a retained competent-person service built specifically for electrical contractors.

Is KeyOstas the ECA's official health and safety partner?

Yes. The ECA describes KeyOstas as its health and safety partner and arranged the exclusive Competent Advisor Service to be run by KeyOstas. ECA Members can read about it on the ECA member-support site under Health & Safety → Training and Assessment.

Do ECA Members already get free health and safety advice?

Yes — every ECA Member can access free competent H&S advice from the ECA by phone or email. The KeyOstas Competent Advisor Service is the next step up: ongoing, on-site support from a named competent external advisor for Members who want a hands-on retained relationship.

What are RAMS and when do electrical contractors need them?

RAMS stands for Risk Assessment and Method Statement — a document setting out a task’s hazards and the safe, step-by-step way to do it. Electrical contractors are normally required to provide job-specific RAMS before starting work on any commercial or construction site, and principal contractors will not let you start without them.

How does CDM 2015 apply to electrical contractors?

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 apply to almost all construction work, including electrical installation on construction projects. As a contractor you have duties to plan, manage and monitor your work safely, cooperate with the principal contractor, and contribute to the Construction Phase Plan. The service helps you meet those duties without drowning in paperwork.

How do I access the service as an ECA Member?

Book a free 20-minute scoping call with KeyOstas, or log in to the ECA website (Member Support → Health & Safety → Training and Assessment) for the Competent Advice Service leaflet and your exclusive Member pricing. We confirm a written proposal within 24 hours of the call.
