Quick answer

What is the SPA/MPQC Quarry Passport?

The SPA/MPQC Quarry passport is a safety qualification for the quarrying and mineral products industry, developed jointly by the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) and the Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC). It covers the specific hazards of quarries and extraction sites, and successful delegates also gain an MPQC Level 2 Award. The passport is valid for three years.

MPQC = the Mineral Products Qualifications Council
Includes an MPQC-specific core day, not the standard SPA Core Day
Successful delegates gain an MPQC Level 2 Award

Quarries and mineral products sites carry distinctive risks — mobile plant, ground stability, edge protection, dust and confined spaces. Because of that, MPQC and SPA built a dedicated passport with its own MPQC core day rather than the standard SPA Core Day. Exemptions are not accepted for the MPQC route. KeyOstas delivers it as an SPA-approved training provider, in public classrooms and in-company.

Is it right for you

Is the SPA/MPQC Quarry Passport right for you?

This is the quarrying and mineral products passport. If you work in another industry, a different SPA passport applies.

Right for you if…

You work on, or need access to, quarries and mineral products sites
Your site or principal contractor requires an SPA/MPQC Quarry passport
You are a contractor working across extraction, processing or aggregates sites
Your employer wants the workforce on the recognised quarry-industry safety standard
You want the MPQC Level 2 Award alongside the passport

A different course fits better if…

Your passport is current and nearing expiry — take the SPA/MPQC Quarry Passport Renewal
You work in food & drink or petrol retail — take the relevant SPA sector passport
You work in general industry — the SPA Core Day plus a sector day may be the route
