Quick answer

What is DSE awareness training?

DSE awareness training gives display screen equipment users the knowledge to work safely at a screen: the risks of DSE work, the requirements of the DSE Regulations, and how to set up and adjust their own workstation. KeyOstas delivers it in half a day at your premises.

For the screen users themselves, in any office, hybrid or home role
Covers the DSE Regulations and the risks of screen work
Teaches users to set up their own workstation correctly
Certificate of attendance for every delegate
Most office, hybrid and home-based staff are display screen equipment users, and poorly set-up workstations are a common cause of aches, eye strain and fatigue. The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 expect employers to give DSE users health and safety training. This half-day course meets that for your whole workforce: it explains the risks, the law in plain terms, and the practical steps every user can take to set their own workstation up well.

Is it right for you

Is DSE awareness training right for your team?

It is for the people who work at a screen, wherever they work.

You want to meet the DSE training duty for your whole workforce
You have office, hybrid or home-based workers
You want staff who can set up their own workstation correctly
You are inducting new starters or refreshing existing staff

A different course fits better if…

You need staff who can assess other people's workstations: see DSE Assessor training
You need broad workplace risk-assessment training: see Risk Assessment training
You want a regulated, accredited qualification: this is a certificate of attendance

FAQ

DSE awareness training: frequently asked questions

Who counts as a DSE user?
Broadly, a DSE user is someone who uses display screen equipment for continuous or near-continuous spells of an hour or more as a significant part of their normal work. Most office, hybrid and home-based staff are DSE users.
Is DSE training a legal requirement?
The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 expect employers to provide health and safety training to DSE users. DSE awareness training is how employers meet that for their workforce.
How long is the course?
Half a day, delivered in-company at your premises.
Does it cover home and hybrid working?
Yes. The course covers setting up a workstation safely whether at the office or at home.
What is the difference between this and DSE Assessor training?
DSE Awareness is a half-day course for the screen users themselves. The DSE Assessor course is a one-day course for the people who will assess other people's workstations.
How often should DSE awareness training be refreshed?
There is no fixed legal interval, but it is good practice to refresh it periodically and when someone's workstation or role changes.
Does the course cover eye strain and fatigue?
Yes. It covers the common effects of poor screen work, including aches, eye strain and fatigue, and how to reduce them.
Is this an accredited qualification?
It is a KeyOstas course with a certificate of attendance: practical training rather than a regulated qualification.
